Is meth known to be in use in Maldives?
No, i dont think it is as widely as used as heroin. I have heard that some who go to the lankan clubs do use it occasionally.
And ice is becomming the new “cool” trend everywhere where heroin was or had been the coolest thing before.
The reason is that as soon as more border security measures are placed, it gets harder for the smugglers to smuggle heroin and meth can be manufactured at home in the back of a garage or gifili it seems.
Meth is Maldives? As far as I know, MDMA (ecstasy) and LSD aren’t available in the Maldives. Most people crank up on heroin, coke and various marijuana extracts.
Also, meth has been “cool” for ages now. It has been used recreationally and medically and was available, albeit legally!, in the USA and Europe for ages since its discovery almost a century ago. It is only now that the religious cry babies in America are freaking out about it.
The images and the PBS program does look horrifying. However, it is interesting that those effects have not yet conclusively been singled out to be meth effects by any research. The long term affects and toxic effects are for the most part not known. Most of the meth is now produced in home labs where the chemicals are impure and incomplete which may obviously give rise to detrimental effects. Like the wikipedia page says it is a heavily debated topic among scientists and becoming a hot research area.
Though this sounds as if I am all hooray for MDMA, I assure you I am not. I am just skeptical. I just find it disturbing how things are dismissed without research and understanding. Why was it that a previously legal and heavily used substance suddenly joined the ranks of other suddenly banned drugs such as LSD and cannabis? Shouldn’t there be a larger number of people who are suffering from these so-called effects when meth was freely available and probably consumed in larger doses until the 80’s?
Jaa, I know at least 1 person who have taken LSD IN Maldives for a long time in the early 1990s and you do hear about some ecstacy pills being smuggled in every now and then.
Once i saw this documentary about meth use and i dont think we need more evidence than what the users were telling us to believe in the nastiness of the drug.
A lot of painkillers are opiate derivative substances. An example would be morphine. Morphine is widely used as a pain killer, post operatively mainly. Patients who need pain relief for longer periods of time or for their entire life, can get hooked up easily on this drug. My point is that even the so called “pure” forms used for medical purposes which are not illegal but stricly controlled (for a reason) can be detrimental.
I handle controlled drugs like morphine and pethidine every day. My job and my days revolve around sick people and I have personally met and talked to people on meth , coke , alcohol.. you name a drug and i have seen the effects on the person. The stories they tell is of pain and miserable sufferings.
I ask myself what more evidence do i need to believe that it is the effect from meth. After you start taking it, you can see them deteriorating with in weeks if not within a few days time.
It must be through research and findings that countries like Canada, Australia and even the most liberal of all countries like the Netherlands are not using methamphetamine even for medical purposes.
US is a different case. Remember my post on the pharmaceutical companies. These companies are the ones who are controlling how, what, when, and why people are treated in US these days. They are “totally” dictating the whole picture of medicare in the US and day by day they are becomming powerful. Just one of the downcommings of privatisation.
We all should fight the recent privatisation of the Drug rehabilitation centre in Maldives. No one knows what “detoxification” processes they might be introducing. I would not trust any private american company to handle our drug addicted kids.
