-THE TRUTH SLEEPS IN THE MORGUE-

Frustrated doctors say on Salah April 18, 2007

Filed under: Morgue news — maldiveshealth @ 9:37 am

A concerned doctor? sent this to this blog.

Sorry to be using your blog for this act. It was one of the few avenues for me to release my frustrations.

I am a Maldivian doctor! In my short career so far, I have dedicated my energies to serving the people. The manipulated news that came in relation to the murder of Salah sickened me. The TV and Radio stated that the doctor who initially examined the body reported no injuries. This was a total and utterly baseless lie being spread by the authorities to hide their own incapacity to prevent the murder in the first place.

The fact of the matter is, the doctor who 1st examined the body, refused to sign the papers insisting that the body would need to be taken to IGMH for further studies as to understand the full extent of the injuries sustained. This was indeed , a highly praise worthy decision in such a pressure situation; none-the-less the right one too.

Far too often people jump to conclusions at the first instance. What may be visible on the outside, may indeed be masking the truth on the inside. The investigations at IGMH confirmed that the body sustained severe injuries. If allowed in public, the medical report clearly states that there were extensive injuries; some of which on their own severe enough to cause death.

It is preposterous that the police, health authorities (including IGMH and MOH) and right mided-media personnel have not responded to this barrage of mis-information that “no injuries were found by initial examining doctor”.

The police investigator who said on national TV that the body bled from the nose only after being turned by the doctor failed to mention that his plausible explanation was just that, and not facts. He also failed to say that there were clear injuries on the body (from torture or otherwise).

We are not part of the government/police cover-up. We have a duty to identify injuries seen on the body and infer a possible cause of death.

Our doctors didn’t do a postmortem because it is not permitted for one thing. The other more valid point is that we do not have a person with enough credentials for that procedure. (You wouldn’t have your appendix removed by a dentist, would you?)

I hope that you would be able to place this as a main post on your blog and help clear the air.

The health authorities do not respond to what you call misinformation because they are partners in crime with the Gayoom regime. For years doctors have helped cover up the crimes of this dictatorship. No doctor wants to speak up because they are not innocent. All you doctors are guilty of collaboration with the dictator in torture and murder.
You are new and still wet behind the ears. New broom sweeps better they say. I have heard this from new doctors before. I’d like to see where you are in a few years.
Already you are unwilling to speak openly and go on the record. To soothe your guilt you write anonymous letters. aaargggrh…get off your high horse and look in the mirror. I have seen this movie before.

One of the problems with the health sector, specially with that regarding the practice of doctors is that it is too easy for them to practice. I mean they can basically do or not do anything they want and there is no one to question what they did or they didnt do.

  3. Mariyam Says:

There is no organization to oversee their ethics and conduct. This is on purpose. They have not formed an organization among themselves to ensure ethical conduct. Why? The doctors know very well that in the countries where they studied such organizations exist. Why have they not formed such an organization? Becasue they are all Guilty. Gulity. Guilty.

  4. maldiveshealth Says:

    Mariyam,

Rather than going on a wild rampage like a mad man it is prudent to think in a more rational way. Obviously not all doctors are guilty. There are excellent doctors who maintain their good ethical standards as well.

I would not have published this post if I were you. You are been lied to and manipulated. If this good doctor has seen this report then strangely the details are missing. Doctors are generally, in my opinion, good with details and express them using medical terminology. This sounds like a baikahkaa kulhey type doctor.

I’ll send you a similar mail signed “concerned forensics specialist in hiding”. :P

  6. maldiveshealth Says:

hehe. I dont know the truth, simon. I am only facilitating the conversation here. :)
    The email said info@igmh.gov.mv.

  7. Shaheem Says:

Most of the Maldivian doctors are part of Dictator Gayoom’s brutal accomplices. They hide real truth and give reports accordingly as the police wants. If you mention the name of doctors like Dr. Yasir and Dr. Mohamed Ahmed many people get scary. Maldives is a place where doctors are manipulated by authorities for their advantage and ethics of medical practices are completely ignored.

  8. Mariyam Says:

Shaheem, Thanks for those comments. Those that do not take part in the brutality are guilty of not speaking up.

  9. moyameehaa Says:

then, why didn’t this ‘CONCERNED’ doctor speak up before.and i think if he/she wanted the public to know things he could have given detailed information to the media.i know maldives is a small place and he/she cant be hiding after that…gayom will surely get him/her.but why not take the risk for justice and against this brutality.and if he had fears…there is an easy way…LEAK the documents someway.and again there is risk.but i believe hiding things like this, any doctor, nurse or what ever have known the truth and hidden it…is part of the golhaasee group.

    Tsk. tsk. tsk,

That is a lot of intellectual masturbation. Sorry i didn’t drop in here earlier.

The doctors are all wrong, the media is all wrong, the government employees are all wrong……well who is on the right tract?

It is the generalised apathy among Maldivians that is wrong. Individuals when they stand up and do the right thing get unjustly punished because we allow it! We are all to blame. Mariyam…you too.

It is NOT courageous to destroy your life and livelihood for nothing. That too when you’d, like the rest of Maldivian and yes including me -SOB-, do nothing to help or prevent an atrocity.

    SH*T. This stinks! Reeks of self-righteous bull-shit!

    F*cking apathy! Congenital suck-ups!

    Pathetic!
