-THE TRUTH SLEEPS IN THE MORGUE-

A research paper by a Maldivian : Drug Rehabilitation and Practice Dilemmas in the Maldives. June 3, 2007

After much thought i decided that this report should be made public. I am talking about the thesis report which was emailed to me by a blogger who is concerned of the continuing drug problem in Maldives. A must read for every Maldivian i must say. It exposes the National Narcotics Control Bureaus failures, infringement of clients rights, processes and also it reinforces my argument of decriminalization of the addiction issue at hand. It is evident that the people who are working closely with the addicts want change. I always believed that those who are working closely with the clients should be involved in the policy making process. They know more. They are the backbone of the treatment process. They want change in the way things are run, they want change in the way their clients are treated and they want a revamp of the whole system. It is an excellent paper. A brief quote from the paper is given below. A link at the end will take you to the paper itself.

(I don’t) see a need for a person from the Ministry of Defence and National Security. If you want to be realistic. I don’t see a need at all. (Why is that?) That is because well what will a person from Defence Ministry do on a commitee that is providing treatment?

You may read the entire paper from below.
