Flu Vaccine = A waste September 25, 2007

Filed under: Drugs — maldiveshealth @ 8:21 am

Again and again it is proving that flu vaccine is not effective.

There is not enough evidence to support the effectiveness of immunising older people against flu, fresh research in the US has concluded. Researchers from George Washington University, Washington DC, say the benefits in reducing deaths among over 70s have been “greatly exaggerated”.

Bloggers are going crazy and angry at the news of the missing girl found dead in Malaysia. Yes, she was found but not alive. She was sexually abused , tortured and dumped in a sport bag. Her name is Nurin Jazlin Jazimin. A blog dedicated in finding the missing girl reports that Nurin has been found and the burial will take place today. Also monsterblog reports on the same incident. More from here.

Again, another incident for us Maldivians to think about.  Specially in the way how she went missing and how alert we all  should be .

6 year old boy accused of sex abuse!!!!!! September 19, 2007

Now, this might be shocking news to many. A 6 year old boy has been accused of sexually abusing other same aged children in a school. It seems that he was running a ’sex club’ in school.

Now, think about that and the recent happenings in Maldives.

I did not choose this life. It chose me. -Benazir Bhutto- September 2, 2007

This is not about Maldives, but may be, just may be, Maldivians could gather inspiration from this post.

But the most dangerous manifestation of this retreat from democracy has been a growing sense of hopelessness of the people of Pakistan, and a total disillusionment with the political system’s ability to address their daily problems. The social sector has festered — underfinanced and relegated to the back burner of national policy. All the indicators of quality of life have spiraled down, from employment to education to housing to health care. And as people’s sense of disillusionment has grown, there has been a corresponding growth in the spread of religious and political extremism. The failure of the regime has made our citizens open to extra-governmental experimentation with fanaticism. This has clearly been manifest in the spread of politicized madrassas, schools in which the curriculum incorporates xenophobia, bigotry and often para-military terrorist training. But poor parents who cannot feed or clothe their children entrust them to these kinds of schools, so their children may be fed and housed.
