There is not enough evidence to support the effectiveness of immunising older people against flu, fresh research in the US has concluded. Researchers from George Washington University, Washington DC, say the benefits in reducing deaths among over 70s have been “greatly exaggerated”.

Don’t let our medical experts to put down their guard because of the lack of proven effectiveness of the vaccine. There may even be other difficulties in diagnosing influenza under clinical conditions and the large number of strains circulating in the population. In 1918, the Spanish flu by some estimates killed upto 100 million worldwide. We’ve got to support research for more effective vaccines and be prepared to deal with a crisis in our community.

I guess you missed the sentence in the 21st paragraph that says while we search for a better evidence base, immunizations of this group should continue.
