Dr. Niyaf has been an instrumental person in the few good changes that we are seeing at IGMH today. No one in the health sector who is reform minded will deny that. No wonder why everyone in the paediatic ward loves him. No wonder why we see changes happening in the pediatric ward and no wonder why that ward is the only place that is organized and has become a place of acceptance by the public. He has passion (which is lacking in many Maldivian doctors) for practicing as a doctor, especially as a pediatrician. It is his life. He has a passion to change things. To improve things. He loves what he does. That is taking care of his patients. Most of all, he cares about people, his patients and will do the BEST professionally. And i know for a fact that if patients’ safety is compromised , he will not stay quiet.
Now, since he has become a little vocal and since he has started to suggest things in IGMH, he has been asked to stay home. Time and time again we see this happening in other areas too. This is how the government tells someone to “shutup” in a silent manner. This is not fair. This is unjust.
This is a time for all reform minded people to stay behind Dr.Niyaf and give all support he deserves. We should not let the people who asked him to stay at home win and kill the progress that Dr. Niyaf has made in improving the services for us all.
Maybe this is only the beginning.
Update:
Dr.Niyaf has posted a message for all on his blog. Below is what he has said.
I am going through a very difficult time in my professional career. I appreciate the kind words, encouragement, support and prayers from my family, friends, colleagues, parents of my patients and others who know me.
I ask everyone to refrain from doing anything that would prolong this difficult time for me and my family. I am not accused of professional negligence, malpractice or improper dealings with patients. My competence, committment and dedication to work has not been questioned.
I seek patience and strength from Allah to get me through this hurdle and look forward to returning to serve the sick children again very soon.
Dr. Niyaf has asked not to do anything that will provoke the matter further. We have to respect his wish and wish him well.
However, IGMH has asked him to stay at home without giving any reason. Everyone knows in Maldives this tactic is used to show displeasure or to demean an employee even if there is no wrong doing. Such cowardly action must be challenged if necessary through legal action. If we want to reform this sytem, these injustices must be fully exposed through the public media, whenever they occur.
I hope the matter between Dr Niyaf and IGMH can be cleared up soon.
I agree with Mohamed Hilmy. I also think the Maldivian Medical Association should have played some role in this matter. btw, where are they?
I have just spoken to someone very close to niyaf, also a co-worker. What I was told was so distressing that I just had to write it to you.
Niyaf is apparently leaving maldives for good! I understand that he is very disappointed with the medical admin of IGMH and the way they have handled this issue (the one involving the new HOD- the as*hole- in the department). He is also very distressed by the lack of action by his co-workers following this incident- who are apparently at work as if nothing has happened. They are all very supportive of niyaf, they like him a lot, they speak very good about him…..and if the need arises have their loved ones treated by him. But the selfish D*Gs have done nothing to force the admin to change its decision.
I also got a clearer picture of what had happened: this friend of mine working at IGMH confirms that the new HOD was treating kids in a way far removed from appropriate…….and the two doctors raised concern about it. {I say rightly so too}. He apparently went and incited the admin SH*T-Heads like solih, fathmath ali and Firdous to take action………….the bullies!
The SH*T-heads, as expected- remember they have nothing but SH*T in their calvarium- took the issue….cooked up of course to the always-sacking-happy Ilyas……the rest is history.
My friend confirms that niyaf is now in colombo to get visa for UK or Australia, and that he will leave in a couple of weeks.
Fathmath Ali B*TCH Didi is apparently the chief conspirator. I was told that niyaf had a professional argument with the B*TCH and she didn’t like the tone of his arguments. The B8TCH and F*CKING firdous then planned this. ASSH*LES.
I am going to scare the sh*t out of that Dr Bagvant (HOD), the child-molesting SOB. I know where you live! you M8ther-F*cker.
Where the heck is the medical association…..where is that…. that Golha-sucking Aseel. and where is the MNA. None of these stupid cranked-up thumb-suckers are doing anything …..
I say serves us all right. We will lose the best “kuda-kudinge doc” we ever had. Thanks to the child-m8lesting Bagvant, sh8thead Solih, party-p*ssy Fathmath Ali B*TCH Didi and thumb-up-your-@ss Firdouse.
excuse my german…….i request you keep this comment or make it a post……remove my german if you have to.
