-THE TRUTH SLEEPS IN THE MORGUE-

UPDATES ON DR. NIYAF October 30, 2007

Filed under: Influences, politics — maldiveshealth @ 3:16 am

Looks like that we are about to lose one of the best doctors. What i do not understand is why these concerned doctors haven’t gone to the media in to the open with this. An injustice is happening. It could be you tomorrow.

  1. sammy Says: I don’t know if he is leaving but I can confirm that he was in colombo recently. I don’t know if he got any visa either! It is distressing isn’t it? The only doctors at IGMH who stood up for the rights of their patients, to up-hold their “duty of care” were punished and are now on the verge of leaving the country. We as a nation deserves nothing better than this! We have done nothing in response of this injustice. We have all allowed this to be played out as it is.One readers had commented that dr niyaf should seek legal action against IGMH. I agree that he may. But that is not the essence of what I am saying. I believe that whether he does take legal action or not, we as a community should not allow this kind of politically motivated injustices to be tolerated.

I agree with this reader, where is MMA? I am aware of the fact that niyaf has left MMA bitterly disappointed with their apathy! I just hope that this meeting being announced on TV “the general body meeting” would address the issue. The trouble is, the bullies are also part of that association!

I am also disappointed with the medical community at IGMH (MMA or not) for continuing to work as if nothing has happened. I know that most, if not all of them, have verbally supported him in this issue. Evidently that is not the kind of support he needs. It is action that is required.

I don’t know what MNA stands for. But I guess it is the nurses! True, if there is a group as such or not, I am also shocked at their level of support for niyaf. All nurses that I have spoken to have said that they all like him, like his work, and that he is possibly the best doctor in terms of his attitude towards his patients. They have all expressed their support for him. They too, have done nothing more than that.

I think dr niyaf should not leave Maldives! He should stay and try to get things better. But I wouldn’t want him to stay if people don’t value his work.

I do understand that in his current state; his career threatened, his livelihood threatened, his family’s’ future threatened and all that with hardly a voice raised by Maldivians against the injustice, he is right to leave us. For good.

NB: can we start a chain mail to raise awareness and support for dr niyaf.

  2. finifenmaa Says: I like the German. Tell the bullies to go copulate with themselves, please.
  3. gh Says: I heard that he is planning to go overseas to acquire even more training in his field.
  4. Yasiph Says: sammy said “politically motivated injustices”
@sammy: I don’t think it is politically motivated, or is it?
@gh: I think he isn’t going abroad. But I have know doctors who feel he should leave for further training/specialization in neonatology(medical care for newborns)He has been noted as saying that practices pediatrics for the sake of it and not as a source for income(most would probably say that). He thinks his ‘catering’ is a much better paid primary job. But hey guys, this may be a gossip but this is what i’ve heard and confused about.

I would really like to see a post about what really happened. I’m still not able to get viable information as the only news i got from dr.n himself is that I would probably have know from the media what is happening. Maybe he meant that everything the media had published is true. But what did really happen! Only if dr.niyaf would post his side of story, till then parents like us would be in confusion.

  5. finifenmaa Says:well Yasiph, that is the pathetic truth. Isn’t it? Our apathy, (or neurosyhilis for that matter) is such that we let good people suffer waiting for the spectacle to play its full-feature-length. We don’t seek the truth ourselves. The truth is, believe me, very simple.
Niyaf, because of his post at MMA, had been very vocal about bringing good change to IGMH.
Whenever doctors took a stand on issues related to their wellbeing IGMH authorities and indeed MOH took it to mean Dr Niyafs’ politically motivated criticism.
I know for a fact that he used to be called to treat the presidents grandchildren, ministers kids and grand kids. Once a delay in attending to a grandchild led to some unnecessary tension. This tension was artificially created by one Dr Naila Firdous! That was the start of this whole problem.
Then there was the verbal tension between Dr Niyaf and Ilyas. Ilyas has evidently taken it to heart, inflamed by Dr Aseels fanning of the flame.
We all know how good he is as a doctor. The fact that all the self-acclaimed high-and-mighty turn to him in times of need says it all.
Then this event at the ward round with the new head of department. This was a simple professional disagreement. Niyaf and Ismail were right too. Good practices were being left to one side. Th trouble was that the complaints taken by the new head of department were taken as face value by Dr solih, Dr Fathmath Ali and Dr Firdous. They failed to discharge their responsibility of finding out what the true event were on ward round. It is their inability to do the right thing that led them to run to Ilyas for his action.
Ilyas, as said, was not in a happy place with the verbal conflict he had had with Niyaf earlier. This was his chance to show his power.

    That was the truth!

And Yasiph, you are wrong again; Niyaf IS leaving Maldives! He has already accepted an offer from overseas.

You are right however, he is going into neonatology. It maybe a big loss for us, but all this maybe a blessing in disguise for Niyaf. He’s found who his real friends are. He’s found it the hard way that the epidemic of Neurosyphilis in Maldives is this extensive!

Again, you may be wrong. It may be political. Niyaf is pro-change. Change is GOOD!

  6. Maumoon Firdous Junaid Says: This is a nice one: sound familiar too! In a small tribe in east Africa, the chief commands his health adviser to find him a doctor to accompany on all international travel. Fockdouse, the chief health advisor, interviews candidates and selects one Dr Jungdaid.Prepared and armed with a medical kit, Dr Jungdaid sets out with chief Golhamoon on a trip to Singapore.

En-route chief Golhamoon has a heart attack and collapses. Dr Jungdaid rushes to the chiefs side and confidently starts resuscitation. Cycles of compressions followed by adrenaline doses were none-the-less futile.

With the adrenaline eye drop bottle near empty, the Ophthalmologist stops compressing chief Golhamoons’ eyes, and declares him dead.

  7. fnifenmaa Says:I’ve got relevant joke too: Maumoon was facing Ilyas in a cowboy-styled mid-noon shoot out in the wild west. With his gun in his hand, Maumoon sported a wicked grin and then fell on his face and started rolling on the ground. No shot were fired yet! Maumoon wasn’t injured either. He was laughing his sides off.

The undertaker went to Maumoon’s side and said, “Now, Now, Be fair…have a fair fight”

“How can this be fair!, The guy on the other side is known to fire BLANKS only” said Maumoon and rolled on and on.

  8. fnifenmaa Says: medical association meeting tomorrow to discuss suspension!! can you get the inside story?heard that there was a meeting at ministry today lunch time to plan for action. they’ll almost definitely try to pitch docs against each other.

Ilyas firing-blanks-on-all-cylinders is scared shit in his panties (yup pink) afraid that docs may cripple the system.

aseel, the president of mma, wants to hit hard the already sucker-punched 2 doctors against popular support. he is doing all he can to derail the popular support train. the 2 faced jerk.

i hope the rest of the associations organising committee would do everything they can to keep doctors interests top of the agenda.

and of course; solih, firdouse, naila, fathmat did: copulate with yourselves vigorously!

  9. insider Says:The meeting is on tonight. The agenda is “unjust suspension of 2 pediatricians”. All doctors are invited. As I write meeting is underway. They are waiting for quorum to be established.A letter was delivered today to Maumoon outlining the doctors grievances and the unjust actions taken by IGMH and MOH.

If I may use some german myself i would like to say “Father Uncle Cousin King” YOU to Dr Fathmath Ali Didi, Dr Mohamed Solih, Dr Mohamed Firdous, Dr Naila Firdous, Dr Aseel Jaleel and Dr Junaid! The BasTardS!!!

  10. insider Says: JUST IN: Just heard at the meeting that Dr Ismail Shafeeu has been asked to return to work at IGMH.Dr Niyaf is not at the meeting. He has apparently resigned from the association citing his refusal to represent the very people who are trying to destroy his life, career and livelihood. He has also asked to have his named removed from the member list! That is radical.

The news is that some other Executive committee members would also leave the association tonight! It is very clear that the association is dying because of the apathy of the medical community to this and other events. It is no surprise that the two doctors who were suspended were the former and current (well, now-resigned) presidents of the association.

There are rumors here that Niyaf may be leaving the Medical field! Not the country as has been previously reported. These are just rumors, Niyaf cannot be contacted. His mobile is disconnected and is out of reach.

There is a group at the meeting who would be calling for Dr Solih’s resignation, for his incapacity in tackling the very minor incident that triggered the suspension. Others want Fathmath Ali Didi to be sacked as well.

I just hope that the doctors get something concrete out of this meeting.

  11. insider Says: hey Maldiveshealth (who ever you are) can you get this thread back on MVBLOGS again! and get more publicity. Please. Dr Niyaf, if you are following this: we are with you. bad things sometimes happen to good people.

  1. peniless Says:

I can guess a reason why Doc Niyaf is not going to the media or the law. He’ll get many people to say good things about him and support him in words, but hardly any with actions!

That group also includes very high profile people and a huge chunk of the cabinet (resigned included) and almost the entire medical fraternity. But that kind of support does little to get him back to his job.

There is a good point too. We all feel that Niyaf hasn’t said anything. Well he has said some very important things on his blog. http://niyaf.blogspot.com
he has said that he’s not accused of any of the really bad things. He hasn’t done anything wrong.
AND he says he’s looking forward to RETURNING to serve the sick children!!! How about that? Huh?

    love you Niyaf.
Can’t wait to see you back.

  2. Indian doctor Says:

This has gone on for far too long. There is every chance that this was a personal grudge by any one or more of those people in the decision making circle.

    This is sickening!

Doesn’t any one of these people have a conscience?

    1. Mr President and family: He treated your family members. He did a good job at that too. He was there to care for the babies of your relatives when they gave birth. He helped you through some of your most anxious moments and yet you allow this to go on?

    2. Mr Yameen: There is no denying, he was instrumental in caring for your little one when he was too little for you to care for him. When there was no hope, he got you through that difficult time. Your little one must be near a year old now. When he’s done so much for you, how could you allow his future and his livelihood challenged like this?

    3. Dr Azeez: You had your child admitted with a life-threatening illness early this year. You and your family were not the only people who lost sleep trying to look after her. On that most critical of days, Dr Niyaf was there to comfort your family. Yet now, your silence and refusal to intervene is threatening his career and his family’s wellbeing.

    4. Dr Solih: You had kids and loved ones who were too sick to be looked after by your family of doctors. And here you are, a co-conspirator and architect of this injustice against him. I feel sick, thinking that you of all people could be party to this treachery. I hope you get some sleep at night, you don’t deserve any to tell the truth.

    5. Other Doctors at IGMH: You have had your kids, your loved ones kids seen by him, at your convenience. He has stood up for your rights with you and even when only a few of you were strong enough to be there for yourselves.
It is a shame that you forsaken him when he needs you to stand up for him. Take a moment to consider what is happening to him because of your fear. His career is being destroyed, his livelihood and ability to support his small kids and family is being challenged, his reputation is being muddied, he is being tortured psychologically and he is being forced to make hard choices for life.
It maybe him today. It could be you tomorrow.

    6. Nurses: Scared. You sing praise for him. You knew that you’d always catch him when you need to show your loved ones in need. No need of that difficult to get appointment, just bump into him at the hospital, your request is seldom ever turned down. He finds time to serve you, as a colleague. As friends. Sadly, that feeling is not mutual. He needs your support today and all you can do is whisper!

    7. The many parents: This is not fair. Is it? One of the few really trustworthy doctors in the country, offended and humiliated for standing up for the right of the sick little ones, for believing in giving them the best care.
There is fear that we will indeed loose him. His caring.
He must be hurting, he must be depressed and he must be feeling hopelessly lonely. If broken, I fear he’ll not return the same. we wont just loose him, he’ll loose himself too.

Anyone and everyone who’s had their loved ones looked after by him, treated by him, cared for by him MUST do something! Anything!

I protest. I’ll write to Hon. Mr Ilyas and even his Excellency President. I will ask them to stop this atrocity. This is NOT JUST! This cannot be JUST. Justice must be done.

  3. Yasiph Says:

@peniless: Yes, he did mention that in his blog dho. I hope he does that.
@indian doctor: Well said. And please do let us know about the reply.

  4. Yasiph Says:

    Oh, I almost forgot

@maldiveshealth: Yes, It is difficult to digest but it could be anyone tomorrow!

Does anyone realize the importance of a proper health law which protects patients and doctors as well? I’m sure the Health ministry doesn’t because the Health master plan 2006-2015 says nothing about it! http://www.health.gov.mv/get_file.asp?id=13&cat=pub But I must say, the health ministry might however think about it after 15 years!! but I know I need it. or does the public really need it?

  5. Finance Says:

I think they want o destroy Dr Niyaf. I can confirm that we have been instructed not to send his salary to his account.

His salary will likely be held till he begs.

    The will make him suffer!

  6. ADK Says:

Just saw Niyaf at ADK!!! Maybe he is going to start working there! I just hope he is.

I used to think that gov jobs were secure, i guess I was wrong. In this country, there is no job garantee.

we need unions in this country and soon to protect workers!

  7. news Says:

A week ago, a child was brought from ADK to IGMH. The baby was his stomach in his chest. A bad condition.

IGMH does not have child-surgeon. It do not have equipment to do this operation. But Firdous “tried” test. baby died.

Unnecessary to do operation at IGMH. baby better shifted to India as used to before.

They did test operation and baby died. Bad people, lied to relatives. should shift to India!!!

Why no one write about this before in newspaper? very bad.

  8. igmh Says:

I couldn’t post this on niyafs blog. I would have said this to him personally, but his mobile is disconnected and his family says he doesn’t want to talk to anyone on the phone when I called his house.

I am a close friend of his. One who always wish him well. As such I have some advice for him. I hope he heeds this. I mean well when I say this.

I think niyaf should ask IGMH and MoH what he would need to do to get back to work at IGMH. Then DO as they want.

In times of war, there is no right or wrong! You are fighting for your survival. Your pay has been withheld. Your two bay may suffer. You kind wife is definitely worried about it. She is strong, she’ll support you as always. Do what needs to be done to get back to work.

In your work you can leave all those bullies behind. Your strength is in your caring attitude, your skills in healing and professionalism. You will prevail.

Do the right thing for your family. Support them as head of family should. Pride aside, they need you.

That “through thick and thin” international sms you forwarded to me; I realize where that came from. The “thick” was his making! I guess you always knew who he was, and where his interests lie, but here you are; hind-sight educated.

Come back to IGMH. IGMH administration and some alter-ego colleagues may not want or need you, but there are hundreds of common people who need you, your skills and caring.

I realize you will be bitterly disappointed, hurt and dejected by all that has happened. This is life. You learn from experience. You’ll never forget these days and the players in on both sides of the turf war.

They will get their right reward in due time. Bhagwat will make more mistakes and one day will get virtually thrown out of IGMH disgraced for what he is; a cheat! Your day will come!

    Wish you all the best.

  9. gh Says:

    Igmh,

that is the most disgraceful advice a friend could give to another. He did what all he did for a purpose.

Unbelievable that you could say something like that. Even One life is worth. What if that mistake you are talking about happens to one of your children or loved one. Is that acceptable?

That is what Niyaf is fighting for.

  10. talk talk nothing happening Says:

There is talk of a petition. Any news and how can i sign that petition?
