More Unhappy Patients December 29, 2007

Filed under: Influences, Technological advancement, death, interests, malpractice, politics — maldiveshealth @ 8:49 am

Here is what an unhappy patient has to say…. I say we need to give a service based on what people NEED not what we think people want.

IGHM or the famous Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in Maldives that we can get a so called “health service” from Maldives at a “cheaper price”. I am writing this article because i had a bad experience as a patient in IGMH.

Looking at the reality we can see is a hospital full of patients and a “lot of doctors” who is just roaming around IGMH. Its true that there are lots of Maldivian doctors in IGMH but from what i have experienced i can say that they need lots of improvements and experiences. Just doing MBBS dosent fullfill to be a qualified doctor.

When we consider IGMH as the only government hospital in Maldives we as the public to get the service have “high expectations” and speaking honestly I wouldnt want to stay in a long line, when my mother or father is having a seizure or syncope or a cardiac arrest, just to get a so called “memo”.

May be I am been pathetic but i am not the only person speaking about this reality. Some times whats not been speak in public is more useful than that are been rumored around the Maldives. Somebody need to talk about this if we want run in the same line as other countries.

We couldnt even do a EEG or a simple EPS from IGMH. These are normal tests around the globe now adays.

So i dont want blame the government for this but the concerned authorities could at least think about this. The concerned person in IGMH need to start giving a service rather than a bussiness.

and More

To all my blog readers. I have been away from my work and my laptop for a couple of weeks. As if you have read my last article i am sure that you have got a little picture of what i have been going through. Since the Road Trauma Accident i had two months back, i haven’t been feeling well. I was kind living in a world of headaches. Having black outs and extreme tensions became a part of my daily life, not to mention that those extreme tensions are not due to any problems that I have.

So i didn’t tell about these black outs and all those headaches to any of my family members reason been that it wasnt a big deal for me until it became more constant and more dangerous. I even had one black out while i was driving my motor cycle. Anyway family caught me one day and they took me to hospital.

After taking my descripiton the medical officer took an ECG and said that there are some abnormalities or in a more definable way “extra beats” in my heart. I was really worried and he said that the extra beats may be the reason for black outs. Anyway doctor advised me to goto Male’ and i was under observation in IGMH for about a week and the cardiologis came into a conclusion that i am having VPC (ventricular pulmonary contractions) and advice to go abroad to do an EPS (electro physiological study)

Most of the doctors in IGMH took my case in a sensitive way and i can still recall a doctor saying “this is an interesting case”. Well for me it wasnt interesting. Anyway i made progress and went India where i was admitted in “max health care” which is by the way a very modern and suitable hospital specialize for heart patients.

I was under observation in max health care for about a 5 days and they run every tests to determine my diagnosis. I was consulted by head of cardiologist and head of neurologist. ECG, EEG, ECHO, EPS, MRI and X-RAY was done which all become normal and head of cardiologist concluded that black outs and headaches are not due to any heart problem but still he mentioned about the VPC’s. After 6 hours of discussion head of neurologist concluded saying that my diagnosis is “Complete partial seizure with secondry generalization” basically meaning i am having normal FIT.

So the good news is that i have been diagnosed and treatment have been given, the bad news been i cant swim for a couple of months. And also the service provided by max health care was excellent and they had an wonderful environment for heart patients and the food there was..wow… it was good. The dieaticians made an excellent choice for me.

So i am back from the black outs and headaches now and with the medication i feel good and healthy.

Tongue Tie December 27, 2007

Filed under: Women and child health — maldiveshealth @ 2:55 pm

tonguetie.jpgEver wondered why the baby is not breast feeding properly. It could be due to a tongue tie. Ankyloglossia is a common condition which usually gets unnoticed and it affects the efficiency of the breast milk baby gets.

Indications of a tongue tie include:

  1. When the tongue is extended, the tongue tip may look flat or squared instead of pointed.
  2. Tongue cannot be moved sideways.
  3. tongue tip may be notched or heart shaped.
  4. Tongue cannot protrude beyond baby’s lips.
  5. baby failing to gain weight.
  6. A clicking sound is often very common when the baby is feeding.
  7. A compression mark on the nipple after feeds.
  8. Nipple pain and damage.
  9. tongue cannot be moved sideways.

Solution is a tongue tie release done by a specialist. Very simple solution and can benefit both mother and baby.

New Slang Words Doctors use December 22, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — maldiveshealth @ 4:39 pm

This is a good one.

Testiculation:Description of a gesture typically used by hospital consultant when holding forth on a subject of which he or she has little knowledge. Gesture is of an upturned hand with out stretched fingers pointed upward, clutching an invisible pair of testicles. HEHEHE :)

Hasselhoff: Term for any patient who shows up in the emergency room with an injury for which there is a bizarre story.

Blamestorming: Apportioning of blame after a spectacular foul-up.

Agnostication: A substitute for prognostication, used to answer the question: How long have i got doc?

The drug “ICE” in Maldives December 12, 2007

misandry.jpgNearly after an year of this site reporting the use of the drug ICE in Maldives, Minivan Daily reports that the NGO journey as saying that the use of the most deadly and most horrendous drug is indeed being used in Maldives. Unlike heroin it is a drug that devastates the user. Kills the victims from the very first dose. All addicted to it admits that it is the MOST EVIL of the drugs ever.

People.. lock yourselves inside your homes if you want to be safe and make sure that the doors are strong enough too. I have nothing more to say at the moment.

A 10 year old girl raped and 9 rapists got away December 10, 2007

Filed under: Women and child health, sex education — maldiveshealth @ 3:20 pm

The judge found that this little girl consented to sex. This did not happen in Maldives. This happened in Australia. Can you believe it?

In sentencing, Judge Bradley said: “I accept that the girl … was not forced, and that she probably agreed to have sex with all of you.”

Rings bells doesn’t it? It is alleged that there were elements of racism behind the judgment.

Suppose if this rape happened in Maldives and if the abused victim was the presidents grandchild, the rapists would have been hanged.

Slap on the face of boy admitted to pediatric ward? December 5, 2007

Filed under: Influences, malpractice, politics — maldiveshealth @ 11:50 am
I have just spoken to a man who claims that his son was slapped on the face while admitted at IGMH, he specifically said Bed No.55 Pediatric ward, 6 months or so ago by Dr Eshwaran!!!

His child, who was admitted for psychiatric problems, had apparently got Dr Eshawaran angry by being “naughty”.

He tells me that he complained to Dr Fathmath Didi. Nothing happened. He said that 2 maldivian doctors also made complaints (rings a bell doesn’t it) about case.

He went on to tell me that he met a lawyer who refused to help him saying that Eshwaran was well protected because of his connections with Police/MNDF.
