Angry comments does not help February 22, 2008

Have a look at Maldives Medical Watch blog. The comments section is proof that all is not well at IGMH. Not well among themselves. There seems to be a lot of anger and frustration that is pouring in to the comments section. Need some advice?  Geek doctor has some for you all.

“Every time I have responded to angry email with emotion I have regretted it. Although it may feel good to respond to a negative email with a venomous answer, emotion is never appropriate. I tell my staff that if they ever feel emotion while writing an email, “save as draft”. Get someone else to review the response first. Send it after a day of rest.

Thus, keep a stiff upper lip, have a thick skin, and run each day based on your trajectory not the position of your ego. “

Angry comments, hmm. Do you know, freedom of speech does not work one way - it works both ways.

So I guess that blog is posting stuff about IGMH which pissed some people off, which is okay. And in return those pissed off people let their feelings known too - which SHOULD also be okay if “freedom of speech” is there. So it’s like “piss off others only if you are ready to be pissed off by others”

Even you have recently enabled comment moderation….

The angry comments on MMW and those on geekdoctor USA reflect vastly different situations. MMW is exposing the medical maladies/injustice in Maldives that doesn’t have a healthcare system unlike the USA which has a healthcare system nothwithstanding their own problems. geekdoctor is run by a healthcare CIO who has the challenge of delivering flawless operational performance while also managing constant change.

In general, the advice he has given is excellent to handle ctriticism in good spirits and civility. Maintaining such cooler heads is much easier said in extremely volatile situations as we feel in Maldives. In Maldives our frustrations are at boiling point as we see in IGMH. Although some comments on MMG are trivial or angry and explosive, there are also some useful thoughts being thrown in like euthanasia while discussing the unfortunate case of a girl who is in prolonged ICU care.
