-THE TRUTH SLEEPS IN THE MORGUE-

All the Hype on the recent Antidepressant study March 1, 2008

Filed under: Drugs, Influences, Technological advancement, advice, interests, media, mental health — maldiveshealth @ 4:50 am

If you look at the published headlines of this study, the first impression you will get is that Anti depressants have been found not to be working anymore. Here is an example just for making things clear.

Heading from Washingtonpost reads.

Only Severely Depressed Benefit From Antidepressants: Study

While popular antidepressants such as Prozac are widely prescribed for people with varying degrees of depression, the drugs are only effective for those with the most severe depression, a new study suggests.

The actual study published on the PloS Medicine Journal and freely accessible online reveals otherwise. It suggests that most groups of people on SSRIs found it helpful. It never suggested that people on antidepressants should stop taking it or it does not have any effect at all.

Around the globe, health Centers, clinics, GPs and phychiatrists were bombarded by phone calls from their clients after reading or hearing of the findings from the report.

So, When it comes to mental health, never, ever trust what you read in the headlines. If your health (or the health of someone you love) is at stake, take the time to read what’s behind the headlines.

Maldives about to embrace Scientology as the solution to drug problem February 24, 2008

It is official. Maldives is seeking help from Narconon International. Mid last year, this blog brought up the subject of possibly using Scientology’s principles in taking care of the drug problem faced by the nation. Next we are going to hear billionaire James Packer taking control of all our prisons. All actors like that of Reeko Moosa are going to become ambassadors of the Church of Scientology. My My…What next? Well no harm in giving it a try dho?
Update:
In a recent video leaked in to the internet, Tom Cruise cites Scientology-backed programs and literature as proof of the organization’s benefits, saying, “We are the authorities on getting people off drugs. We are the authorities on the mind. We are the authorities on improving conditions. Criminon: we can rehabilitate criminals. Way to Happiness: we can bring peace and unite cultures. Once you know these tools and you know that they work, it’s not good enough that I’m just doing ok.”
It is a known fact that Scientology is after recruiting criminals. Pedophiles such as Ian Huntley and Roy Whiting and killer Michael stone from Britain are just to name a few. It is also a known fact that they offer “courses” to prisoners. Also it is a known fact that the way they supposedly wean off drugs is by giving them doses of vitamins. They are notoriously known to oppose any form of psychotropic medications and they hate anything to do with psychology.

More Unhappy Patients December 29, 2007

Filed under: Influences, Technological advancement, death, interests, malpractice, politics — maldiveshealth @ 8:49 am

Here is what an unhappy patient has to say…. I say we need to give a service based on what people NEED not what we think people want.

IGHM or the famous Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in Maldives that we can get a so called “health service” from Maldives at a “cheaper price”. I am writing this article because i had a bad experience as a patient in IGMH.

Looking at the reality we can see is a hospital full of patients and a “lot of doctors” who is just roaming around IGMH. Its true that there are lots of Maldivian doctors in IGMH but from what i have experienced i can say that they need lots of improvements and experiences. Just doing MBBS dosent fullfill to be a qualified doctor.

When we consider IGMH as the only government hospital in Maldives we as the public to get the service have “high expectations” and speaking honestly I wouldnt want to stay in a long line, when my mother or father is having a seizure or syncope or a cardiac arrest, just to get a so called “memo”.

May be I am been pathetic but i am not the only person speaking about this reality. Some times whats not been speak in public is more useful than that are been rumored around the Maldives. Somebody need to talk about this if we want run in the same line as other countries.

We couldnt even do a EEG or a simple EPS from IGMH. These are normal tests around the globe now adays.

So i dont want blame the government for this but the concerned authorities could at least think about this. The concerned person in IGMH need to start giving a service rather than a bussiness.

and More

To all my blog readers. I have been away from my work and my laptop for a couple of weeks. As if you have read my last article i am sure that you have got a little picture of what i have been going through. Since the Road Trauma Accident i had two months back, i haven’t been feeling well. I was kind living in a world of headaches. Having black outs and extreme tensions became a part of my daily life, not to mention that those extreme tensions are not due to any problems that I have.

So i didn’t tell about these black outs and all those headaches to any of my family members reason been that it wasnt a big deal for me until it became more constant and more dangerous. I even had one black out while i was driving my motor cycle. Anyway family caught me one day and they took me to hospital.

After taking my descripiton the medical officer took an ECG and said that there are some abnormalities or in a more definable way “extra beats” in my heart. I was really worried and he said that the extra beats may be the reason for black outs. Anyway doctor advised me to goto Male’ and i was under observation in IGMH for about a week and the cardiologis came into a conclusion that i am having VPC (ventricular pulmonary contractions) and advice to go abroad to do an EPS (electro physiological study)

Most of the doctors in IGMH took my case in a sensitive way and i can still recall a doctor saying “this is an interesting case”. Well for me it wasnt interesting. Anyway i made progress and went India where i was admitted in “max health care” which is by the way a very modern and suitable hospital specialize for heart patients.

I was under observation in max health care for about a 5 days and they run every tests to determine my diagnosis. I was consulted by head of cardiologist and head of neurologist. ECG, EEG, ECHO, EPS, MRI and X-RAY was done which all become normal and head of cardiologist concluded that black outs and headaches are not due to any heart problem but still he mentioned about the VPC’s. After 6 hours of discussion head of neurologist concluded saying that my diagnosis is “Complete partial seizure with secondry generalization” basically meaning i am having normal FIT.

So the good news is that i have been diagnosed and treatment have been given, the bad news been i cant swim for a couple of months. And also the service provided by max health care was excellent and they had an wonderful environment for heart patients and the food there was..wow… it was good. The dieaticians made an excellent choice for me.

So i am back from the black outs and headaches now and with the medication i feel good and healthy.

Did you ever wanted  or let a doctor outside of your country know about a certain test result of yours or your medical records. Healthvaut allows you to do just that.  I did give it a go and seems fine to me. I do not know how secure it is though.

When it’s your job to protect your family’s health, you need every advantage. Imagine if you had a way to collect, store, and share the health information critical to your family’s well-being.

Good news for all the war veterans and others who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A cure for PTSD could be nearer than we might have thought.

Researchers from MIT’s Picower Institute for Learning and Memory have uncovered a molecular mechanism that governs the formation of fears stemming from traumatic events. The work could lead to the first drug to treat the millions of adults who suffer each year from persistent, debilitating fears - including hundreds of soldiers returning from conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Many say that he has an extremely higher intelligence level and ranks him with great minds like that of Einstein.

Program for environmental Geriatrics April 12, 2007

Filed under: Technological advancement, disability, special needs — maldiveshealth @ 5:38 pm

This is another excellent resource for those in the health education area to look in to. Excellent graphics and explanation. It is a multimedia course which enables people to learn ways in managing others with a disability or on older person who has limited capacities. It is worth to give it a go and learn. Even those who has an elderly parent, this web based course can be of great help as there is very little understanding among Maldivians regarding old age. Just click the “Launch the course” button and you are ready to go.
